Go Skateboarding Day is a holiday celebrated annually on June 21st by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to promote skateboarding and encourage young people to skateboard. The feast was initiated in 2002 in New York City by Kerel „SriKala” Roach and Bryan Chin. Its original name was All Star City Skate Jam. Later, in 2004, it was renamed Go Skateboarding Day.

History of Go Skateboarding Day

The feast was established in 2004 by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to facilitate access to skateboarding around the world by different events organized not only in large cities such as New York, Paris, Tokyo, Barcelona, Berlin, but also in smaller ones. In 2006, more than 350 events were held in 32 countries all over the world and a year later, the International Association of Skateboard Companies received Special Congressional Recognition from Loretta Sanchez, an American congresswoman, for its commitment to promoting skateboarding and encouraging young people to practice the sport.

Per Welinder, co-founder of Birdhouse Skateboards, suggested that this holiday be called Go Skateboarding Day to make it more of a call to action. In this way they set the date of June 21st, the longest day of the year.
