World Creativity and Innovation Day is celebrated internationally each year on April 21st. This day was established by the United Nations to honour the creative and innovative activities of people around the world. The international feast encourages people to let go their creativity and use of new ideas to make the world a better place to live than ever before. World Creativity and Innovation Day is the last day of World Creativity and Innovation Week. Since 2002 it has been celebrated by entrepreneurs, organisations, schools and local communities in over 46 countries around the world.

History of World Creativity and Innovation Day

In response to the „creativity crisis” in Canada, Marci Segal, a creative expert, decided to create a World Creativity and Innovation Day. With the help of colleagues, she organised the first Creativity and Innovation Day in April 2002 to encourage people to let go their creativity and use of new ideas to make the world a better place to live. Following its success among the community, many other countries from all over the world joined in celebrating it. Then, in 2006, World Creativity and Innovation Week was established, starting from Leonardo da Vinci's birthday on April 15th and ending on April 21st, World Creativity and Innovation Day. April 21st, the day before Earth Day (April 22th) was chosen as World Creativity and Innovation Day to emphasize the importance of using one's imagination and unleashing a new way of thinking to create a decent life for all. This day is a goal and a reason for development for the creative community around the world, because it is the time when life is born with new ideas, actions and results.
