International Dollhouse Day 2025

Until International Dollhouse Day are 153 days, ie 5 months and 2 days.

In 2025 International Dollhouse Day is on 7th April (Monday).

International Dollhouse Day is a holiday established by the Museum of Dollhouses, Games and Toys, located in Warsaw. Its purpose is to promote knowledge of historical dollhouses as a material document of the times in which they were made, and to encourage people to make their own dollhouses.

The initiators of the holiday motivate people to organize various activities related to the celebration of this day - from organizing contests for the most interesting houses, to sharing their ideas for making miniatures from everyday objects of completely different use - such as making plates and bowls from buttons, lamps from decorative bottle caps, mini dressers from matchboxes. The idea behind making dollhouses is that regardless of manual skills and wallet wealth - they can be made by anyone - and the effects depend only on the creativity and imagination of the author. It is also a hobby that perfectly integrates the family in a common activity, and a doll's house, which is passed from generation to generation, can become a beautiful family heirloom, full of hidden stories and meanings, legible and understandable only to the closest ones.

The date of the holiday was not chosen at random - April 7th is the birthday of the founder's daughter of the Museum of Dollhouses, Games and Toys, whose great adventure in dollhouse collecting began precisely with the renovation of an old house for her then little daughter. Now the museum, established in 2016, features more than 150 historic homes, stores, schools, hospitals and other sites made in different parts of the world. The oldest house is more than 200 years old. The exhibits come from the private collection of Aneta Popiel-Machnicka and have been fully restored to their former glory by her and her daughter Rose.

Historical dollhouses are a fascinating document of the era, and displaying them in a museum exhibit is an attractive way to familiarize visitors with past customs, vanishing professions, fashions in interior design and clothing, architectural styles and even social phenomena. The dollhouses represent an extremely diverse and interesting cultural heritage, and evoke great admiration among visitors.

Secret passageways, the magical atmosphere of the exhibition, admiration for the craftsmanship of old toys, reflection on what is irretrievably gone and a great inspiration for one's own creativity - this is the Museum of Dollhouses, Games and Toys in Warsaw.
